UPAVIM – meaning ‘United for a Better Life’, is based in the community of La Esperanza, a squatter’s settlement located on the outskirts of Guatemala City in Central America. Set up in 1990 by a group of ten women, UPAVIM’s mission is to empower women in the community, to enable them to improve their quality of life as well as those of their families by providing access to education and employment opportunities; health and child care services, and personal and professional developmental programmes. |

UPAVIM’s artisans produce beautiful handcrafts such as the famous Guatemalen Worry Dolls, for the local and international market and now employs more than 80 women. |
